When a young activist develops a mysterious sleeping sickness, her friends and family are left to speculate on the origins and meaning of her illness. Their search leads them on a journey—rendered from precisely choreographed tracking shots of virtual reality models—through internet culture and fringe medical research to the discovery of a novel social contagion. As the story unfolds, fragmented digital aesthetics unsettle the slick promise of techno-utopian dreams, revealing the tenuous nature of agency in a virtualizing world.
